Managing Director", tin D27cm. Auctioneer's Note: 1948/9 was the season Hull City gained promotion from the Third Division North to the Second Division. They played Grimsby Town (then in the Second Division) in the fourth round of the F.A. Cup on 29th January 1949 beating them 3-2 in Grimsby, progressing to the sixth round where they played Manchester United (First Division) at home on 26th February losing to a single goal scored by Pearson and Boothferry Park had a record attendance on that day. Provenance: By direct descent from the family of Raich Carter having been consigned by his daughter Jane Carter.
